We will discuss what brings you to therapy, potential desired goals and outcomes from our work together, and get a feel for how we might work together to best support your needs and achieve those goals.
-
The goal of the first session is to establish rapport, trust and comfort/safety. We will discuss informed consent to ensure you are fully aware of the limits, risks and benefits of therapy. We will discuss relevant details of your life and experiences that bring you to therapy. We will identify goals and how we might approach working toward those goals. Together, we will develop a plan that will address your primary concerns.

Two general guidelines can be helpful when considering whether you or someone you love could benefit from therapy. First, is the problem distressing? And second, is it interfering with some aspect of life?
When thinking about distress, here are some issues to consider:
Do you or someone close to you spend some amount of time every week thinking about the problem?
Is the problem embarrassing, to the point that you want to hide from others?
Over the past few months, has the problem reduced your quality of life?
When thinking about interference, some other issues may deserve consideration:
Does the problem take up considerable time (e.g., more than an hour per day)?
Have you curtailed your work or educational ambitions because of the problem?
Are you rearranging your lifestyle to accommodate the problem?
A “yes” response to any of these questions suggests that you might wish to consider seeking professional help. Remember that sometimes a problem might be less upsetting to you than it is to the people around you. This does not necessarily mean that you are in the know and your friends or family are over-reacting to you. Rather, this situation suggests that you may wish to think about why the people who care about you are upset.

You should feel heard, understood, accepted, supported, empowered and comfortable giving feedback to your therapist. If you don’t feel these things, it may be a sign that your therapist isn’t a great fit for you.

You can book an appointment with me directly online, or email me to initiate the process.

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the therapists’ day that could have been filled by another patient. As such, I require 48 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Clients who provide less than 48 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee to the card on file.

Registered Social Work services are covered by many extended health benefit plans. You may receive reimbursement for sessions if your plan specifies coverage for Registered Social Workers (RSWs or MSWs).
It is your responsibility to submit your paid fees for reimbursement, so please check your coverage.
Additionally, please keep in mind that some insurance companies might not reimburse you for therapy fees until you have received authorization from them. Please consult with your insurance company if you are unsure of their policies around reimbursement for MSW/RSW services. -
I use an online health and wellness practice platform called Jane App. Anytime you or I transfer data from a computer or device to Jane, the information is encrypted with the same level of security as your bank uses to transfer information. In addition all patient data is stored in encrypted data volumes on Jane servers.

Anything and everything we discuss is kept private and confidential except under the following circumstances: 1) when a client indicates that they are at risk to harm themselves of others, 2) when there is reason to believe a child under the age of 16 is in need of protection from physical abuse, sexual abuse, serious emotional abuse or neglect, 3) when I am mandated by law to disclose information or 4) you, the client, provide written consent that you would like me to share information with a third party.
All conversations we have are private. Any notes taken during sessions will be stored on a password-protected, encrypted health and wellness practitioner platform (Jane) that is only accessible by me. To ensure clients are receiving the best care possible, access to some non-identifying information may be shared during clinical supervision.
In certain rare situations, I might be required to divulge information you provide without your permission. Those rare situations are:
If I think you or someone else could be in immediate danger of physical harm and I have information that could stop it;
If a child under the age of eighteen might require protection;
If I receive a search warrant or am subpoenaed by a court of law.
If you would like your information to be shared with other people (such as family members, lawyers, other medical professionals, etc.), you will be required to fill out and sign a Consent to Release and Exchange Information form. You will then have the right to modify or withdraw your consent at any moment, even after it has been granted.
